Giveaway: Language Activator

1 May

Today’s giveaway is for the Longman Language Activator.

This book is like an English dictionary for non-native speakers, but it’s more detailed. It shows you more about common words and how they’re used. It shows all the words and phrases related to an idea, and it even shows examples and opposites.

To see more about this book, check it out at the link below:

This one looks like a good one to win! It doesn’t seem to be a cheap book to buy!

To enter and win the Language Activator for free, you need to do at least one of the following. The more you do, the more chances you have to win. Do one, get one chance. Do all three, get three chances!

  1. Like me on Facebook. (Just click on the Facebook symbol on the right side of the page. Then, when you get to Facebook, click “Like.”) After you like Your English Life on Facebook, come back and leave a comment to tell me that you did it.
  2. Follow me on Twitter. (Just click on the Twitter symbol on the right side of the page. Then, when you get to Twitter, click “Follow.”) After you follow Your English Life on Twitter, come back and leave a comment to tell me that you did it.
  3. Subscribe to my RSS feed. (Just enter your e-mail address in the box on the right side of the screen and click “Subscribe.”) After you subscribe to the Your English Life RSS feed, come back and leave a comment to tell me that you did it.

Giveaway: Freakanomics

21 Feb

This week’s giveaway is for the book Freakanomics.

Freakanomics is an economics book, but it’s not just about economics. As the subtitle says, it’s a look at the “hidden side of everything.” It’s full of interesting ideas and the answers to questions like “Do parents matter?” and “Where have all the criminals gone?” It would make a good pleasure reading book for advanced English learners.

To see more about the book and read reviews, check out Amazon’s page:

If your native language is not English, you can enter to win this book for free until noon on February 26, 2012. Just do the following things:

  1. To get one chance or entry , leave a comment below. In your comment, tell me your native language.
  2. To get another entry, click the “Share” button on this post to share on Facebook. Then, come back and leave a comment. Tell me that you shared the post on Facebook.
  3. To get another chance, tweet about it on Twitter. Then, come back and leave a comment. Tell me that you shared the post on Twitter.
  4. You can get another entry by signing up for the RSS feed to this site. Just enter your e-mail address in the box on the right side of this page. Then, come back and leave a comment. Tell me that you signed up for the RSS feed. (This is the best option because you receive e-mails with all new posts!).

Winner: Flor’s Journey to Independence

4 Feb

Even though I was a little disappointed (and surprised!) that only two people wanted to win the book, it was good for them. They had a 50/50 chance!

And I’m happy to announce that the winner of Flor’s Journey to Independence is…

Weidong!

Thanks for entering, and I hope more of you will enter for the next giveaway. Watch for it soon!

Giveaway: Flor’s Journey to Independence

28 Jan

Win a copy of the book Flor’s Journey to Independence.

Flor’s Journey to Independence by Barbara Vaille and Jennifer QuinnWilliams is a book written for English language learners, which makes it a nice book for beginners. The language is fairly simple, and the story is for adults. I have used this book in class, and most students said it was their favorite book of the class.

To see more about the book and read reviews, check out Amazon’s page.

To enter and win this book for free, leave a comment below telling me the last book you read (or telling me that you’ve never read a book if that’s the case!). Leaving this comment gets you one entry (chance at winning). You can gain 3 additional entries by (1) sharing this post on Facebook and leaving a comment below to tell me that you shared it, (2) sharing the contest on Twitter and, again, leaving a comment below to let me know that you tweeted about it, and/or (3) signing up for Your English Life’s RSS feed in your reader or by e-mail and leaving a comment below about it. That gives you four possible entries into the giveaway. That’s 4 chances to win the book! Good luck! Contest ends February 4, 2012 at noon.
